Alvin R - A Champion of Heights In An Unforgettable Day of Athletics

The Athletics Meet on Saturday 27th February was an exceptional day for our Team Runnymede athletes who achieved some fantastic results.

Old Runnymedian, Alvin R, was proclaimed U20 Madrid Champion in the high jump after his impressive final jump of 1,95 metres. Alvin cleared each and every one of the heights seamlessly until he got to 1,92 metres and needed a couple of attempts.

At this point, the rest of the participants were already out of the competition except for his main rival, another former Runnymede College student, Fadi Masri. The pressure was on and even so, our athlete, whose personal best is 1,99 metres, didn’t crack. He raised the bar and in his second attempt, cleared the 1,95-metre height, unlike his rival. With Masri eliminated and the gold medal already in his pocket, Alvin continued to compete to beat his personal best, but on this occasion, the height of 1,98m proved unattainable.

While Alvin triumphed in the high jump, our youngest athletes triumphed in various other disciplines. Our two Benjamins, Clara L and Ricardo S ran the 50 meters in 9.34 and 8.40 seconds respectively, placing them among the top 20 rankings in Madrid.

Likewise, our Alevines Miguel A and Clara G covered the 60 meters in 9.86 and 9.80 seconds, moving up in the ranking on their way to the Madrid Championship. Our Infantiles, Max V and Diego N also stood out, who stopped the timer in 9.12 and 9.32 seconds, obtaining great results that bring them closer to the best of Madrid.

It’s fantastic to see our athletes triumph on the track. Congratulations to all!
