Here at Runnymede College, the learning in our Early Years Foundation Stage is about exploring, creating and communicating, while in a safe and nurturing environment.
Children are immersed in English language through lots of fun role play opportunities to practise their language as well as high quality texts. Each class has an experienced, Native English speaking class teacher to deliver the British National Curriculum. Alongside this, children have regular Spanish lessons every week. Our children begin to meet letter sounds and early phonic knowledge linked to our whole school Phonics scheme – Read Write Inc.
Much of the time, children learn through the incredible power of play! At Runnymede College we know the importance of outdoor learning for children’s wellbeing and self-esteem. Every day children have the opportunity to explore in our “Enchanted Garden” – a forest school area where children can experience first-hand the wonders of the natural world. They develop problem solving and social skills through new and unique challenges that are carefully created by our skilled adults.
Our small classes allow teachers to really get to know the children and offer a tailored approach to the needs of each and every individual. The close contact our teachers have with parents mean that we can all provide the best possible care, both at school and at home. From the moment they walk through our doors, children are making memories. The Early Years shows, Sports Days and other activities (including the recent tea party and picnic to celebrate The Coronation) are always delightful. With children able to join from 2 years old, our Early Years Foundation Stage is the perfect place for your child to begin their learning journey at Runnymede College.
