Senior School Curriculum
As a top academic school, Runnymede College prepares its students for university life and beyond. As ever, it is clear what universities are looking for: exceptional grades at (I)GCSE and A-Level.
Our exciting, stimulating curriculum and excellent teaching certainly addresses this. However, we know that grades alone will not provide our pupils with the future-proof education required for an ever-evolving, competitive world of work, nor stimulate the intellectual appetite to sustain engaged, lifelong learning. Therefore, we encourage our pupils to think more broadly and become fascinated by the world around them.
Our academic enrichment and co-curricular activities provide opportunities to explore live issues, challenge existing opinions, to develop personal skills and the confidence to work effectively in a team. From Model United Nations, Debate Club to Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, a Runnymede education is not only inspiring whilst you are with us, but highly valuable after you leave.
British Education:
Year 9 Curriculum
All Year 9 pupils follow a broad range of subjects including humanities, languages, creative and performance arts, maths and sciences. Pupils are assessed throughout the year via a combination of project work, presentations and timed tests. Together, this makes up a healthy, balanced academic programme which provides the knowledge and skills from which to embark up on an effective and enriching (I)GCSE programme.
Years 10-11 Curriculum
All pupils study Maths, English and French as a core to their (I)GCSE curriculum as well as Spanish and Sociales. They then choose a combination of four option subjects from a range of humanities, arts, languages and sciences. This allows for the exact number and combination of subjects to be tailored to individuals and personalised according to each pupil’s abilities and interests.
In Year 10 they embark upon a two-year course in each of these subjects, following the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) or GCSE curriculum. Final public exams are taken at the end of Year 11. Towards the end of Year 11, students will choose the subjects which they wish to study for A level in the Sixth Form.
