Senior School Curriculum
As a top academic school, Runnymede College prepares its students for university life and beyond. It is clear what universities are looking for: exceptional grades at GCSE and A level.
Our exciting, engaging curriculum and excellent teaching certainly address those aspects. However, we know that grades alone will not provide our pupils with the future-proof education required for an ever-evolving, competitive world of work, nor stimulate the intellectual appetite to sustain engaged, lifelong learning. Therefore, we encourage our pupils to think more broadly and to engage in the world
around them. Our academic enrichment and co-curricular activities provide opportunities to explore live issues, challenge existing opinions, to develop personal skills and the confidence to work effectively in a team. From Model United Nations, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Take a Runnymedian to Work, to our Sixth Form Orientation programme, a Runnymede education is not only inspiring whilst you are with us, but highly valuable as you leave.
British Education:
Runnymede College follows the English National Curriculum, with pupils taking IGCSEs at the end of Year 11 and A-Levels at the end of
Year 13.
Year 9 Curriculum
All Year 9 pupils follow a broad range of subjects including humanities, languages, creative and performance arts, maths and sciences. Pupils are assessed throughout the year via a combination of project work, presentations and timed tests. Together, this makes up a healthy, balanced academic programme which provides the knowledge and skills from which to embark up on an effective and enriching IGCSE programme.
IGCSE Curriculum (Years 10-11)
All pupils study Maths, English and French as a core to their IGCSE curriculum. They then choose a combination of five option subjects from a range of humanities, arts, languages and sciences. This allows for the exact number and combination of subjects to be individual and personalised according to each pupil’s abilities and interests.
A Levels (Sixth Form: Years 12-13)
It is the in the Sixth Form where students really being to specialise and make choices which will shape their futures. Careful, tailored support is given to pupils in Year 11 to enable them to make subject choices which support their abilities and interests, and facilitate potential university course or career choices. All students select three or four subjects from a broad range of subjects, with Economics and Business Studies as new options in the Sixth Form. An optional Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is also available for pupils with to explore their passion or personal interest in a particular subject or topic.
