On Thursday 26th October Runnymede College Charity Committee, organised the biggest cake sale in the school’s history to raise money for its chosen charity – Fundación Aladina. After persuasive emails from the school leadership team, parents and pupils spent Wednesday evening baking cakes, cookies, doughnuts and breads, and by 9am on Thursday morning about 200 donations had been received in the school dining room – much to the surprise and delight of the brilliant catering manager Yoli.
Yoli kept her calm as she organised everything to be laid out with her team of 6th Form helpers, and thereafter, class by class arrived with excited anticipation to discover what treats would take their fancy and delight their palates. At the end of the day, the entire school had been served, and the Prep School in particular tried everything and smiles were aplenty, as can be seen by the photos attached. However, as we wrapped up for lunch, there were still enough goodies to go again, and therefore the Charity Committee took the brave decision to lay everything out again on Friday so that parents arriving to pick up their children for Half Term could begin their holiday with a cake!
Children and parents were extremely generous with their donations, and in the end €2,453.44 was raised to support our fantastic cause. The Fundación Aladina is a Spanish charity, whose aim is to make sure that all children fighting cancer never lose their smiles; and within Runnymede, we all think that this is a wonderful mission statement. It was a pleasure to be able to lend our support, and Runnymede is extremely proud of all pupils involved in organising such a successful event. Our next charity missions are just around the corner – Christmas discos….. watch this space!
