Pre-Prep Pastoral Care

Welcoming children into their first experience of school life is not something we take lightly in the Pre-Prep. We know that for our youngest learners, we provide the bridge between time spent time home and the rest of their lives as a learner. Alongside our exciting curriculum, we ensure children’s pastoral needs are well supported. At the heart of what we do are our core values of Respect, Kindness and Curiosity.

If you have any queries about your child’s wellbeing, you are warmly encouraged to speak to a member of our Pastoral team. This team includes specialism from the School Nurse, Educational Psychologist, SENDCO and the Headteachers in their capacity as the Designated Safeguarding Leads. At Runnymede Pre-Prep School we ensure-

Strong Relationships

Our expert staff create nurturing and structured environments where children feel valued and confident to learn and explore. Talented Teaching Assistants help us to support children pastorally and academically throughout the age range. The staff develop close and trusting relationships with the children in their care.

Emotional Support

Supported by a thorough PSHE programme, we help all children to name and manage their emotions. We help children to develop self-esteem, resilience and positive attitudes to challenge and mistakes.

Social Development

Children have plenty of opportunities to develop social skills through play at all ages. Structured group activities provide opportunities for team work and developing communication skills. Conflict resolution is taught gently, helping children learn to navigate social challenges.

Excellent safeguarding and positive behaviour support

Safeguarding the young children in our care is our highest priority. All staff are regularly trained in the latest updates to policy and practice and are experts in supporting children and managing risks while in our care. We use positive behaviour strategies to help children to make the right choices for the right reason. Through clear and age appropriate expectations we promote our core values of Respect and Kindness. Our Behaviour Policy supports nurturing relationships and healthy boundaries, with consequences that are meaningful rather than punitive.

An Inclusive Environment

We value every child as an individual and communicate closely with families to support each and every pupil. When we identify an extra area of challenge, staff promptly and sensitively respond to provide additional support. Children with additional needs are supported holistically to make their best progress across the curriculum. In our kind and caring school community, the children understand that we are all different and experience different challenges but that we show respect to everyone.
