Winter term in the Early Years Foundation Stage

The Winter term is full of magic in the Early Years Foundation Stage, here at Runnymede. Reception Class worked hard on their performance skills before giving a wonderful Nativity production to their families and the rest of our Pre Prep school. Our Pre Nursery and Nursery classes also shared a lovely sing along with their parents. We even enjoyed a disco to get into the festive spirit!

Learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom. Our Forest School area is always a firm favourite for the children to explore their natural world. Nursery have been looking for signs of Winter all around them in their nature walks. In Pre Nursery, our youngest children have enjoyed watching snowflakes melt in their hand- as if by magic! Reception are looking forward to a trip to the Science Museum to create exciting experiments.

Of course, so much progress does happen every day. We are proud of our Reception Class, where more than 40% of children are working above the expected level in our Read Write Inc Phonics scheme (67% of children are on track or above!), one of the leading Phonics programmes in the UK.
