On the final day of term, we had the honour of welcoming former Runnymede College parent, Mr Luis Figo, to campus to officially inaugurate our new sports facilities.
Mr Figo was welcomed by a guard of honour formed by pupils and staff, whose enthusiastic applause accompanied him as he walked onto the centre of the new football pitch. He was received by Headmaster Frank Powell, his family (Manuel Powell Rodriguez Georgina Powell cristina Powell), and the Director of Sports, while the Prep School Headmaster (Duncan Bailey) provided a lively narration of the occasion. Mr Figo was then presented with a Team Runnymede shirt, which he was pleased to wear immediately.
Mr Figo subsequently delivered a thoughtful address before cutting the ceremonial ribbon alongside the Headmaster, formally declaring the new facilities open. The event concluded with Mr Figo demonstrating his world renowned skills in a friendly shootout against two Team Runnymede goalkeepers.
We are sincerely grateful to Mr Figo for taking the time to spend the morning with us, and for the warmth, generosity, and patience he showed throughout his visit.
