A few weeks ago we were honoured to receive a visit from the British Ambassador to Spain, Mr Hugh Elliott , and his Spanish wife Toni.
The Ambassador was greeted by Mr and Mrs Powell, the Head Boy, and Junior School House Captains on arrival, before meeting with members of the VI Form Model United Nations Club, who had recently returned from attending a conference in Munich. The sixth formers asked the Ambassador about his university studies and the trajectory of his career, before moving onto to some rather more delicate questions about Brexit and Gibraltar! It was a privilege for the MUN Club to listen to his appropriately diplomatic answers, witnessing superb communication skills and lightly-worn knowledge in action.
The Ambassador and his wife were then taken on a tour of the Founder’s Building, stopping by some interesting lessons on the way to watch the Junior School’s Choral Poetry Performance in the Julia Powell Auditorium & Sports Hall. Runnymede’s younger pupils really impressed with their energetic, enthusiastic renditions of a range of fun poems, with “Onomatopoeia” a particular highlight! We were finally able to show Mr and Mrs Elliott around the newly refurbished Junior School buildings.
We were thrilled to be able to meet the Ambassador and impress him with both the Runnymede campus and some examples of our educational excellence. We were left feeling that Anglo-Spanish relations are in very good hands!
