Exam Results & University Destinations 2026

We are pleased to share our 2026 Exam Results & University Destinations infographic attached.

Runnymede College is incredibly proud of its Year 11 pupils who achieved outstanding IGCSE results in the Summer 2026 exam season. 72% of the more than 800 examinations sat were at grades 7-9 (the equivalent of A/A* in old money), and 51 of the year group of 89 scored at least seven of these top grades. What singles out Runnymede College at IGCSE is the breadth of its curriculum. Pupils sat, on average, more than 9 subjects each, with 40 of the cohort achieving 10 or 11 qualifications. The strength of these broad foundations leaves them ideally prepared for the start of A Level study this autumn.

2026 saw IGCSE grading move from the traditional letter grades to a nine-point numerical system introduced in the UK a decade ago. The top grade 9 is placed even higher than the A* and 30% of Runnymedians’ results hit this tougher top hurdle. Just over half of our students’ grades were at grade 8 or 9. In addition, 28 Year 10 pupils sat their French IGCSE a year early, all achieving a grade 9! Mathematics rivalled French as our top-performing subject, with the average grade an astonishing 7.9 and no fewer than 38 students reaching grade 9.

At A Level, in a cohort of 92 pupils, 85% of grades were awarded at A*-B and 55% at A*/A (well above the UK national average of 28% and the UK Independent Schools’ average of 49%). Again, Runnymede students excelled in their breadth, with 79% of them achieving at least four A Levels and 28 achieving at least three A/A* grades.

As a result, 85% of students achieved a place at their first-choice university. 57% of them will continue their studies in the UK, with 75% attending a top-ten-ranked institution. The most popular destinations this year are St Andrews (12), UCL (6), LSE (5), Oxford (4), Imperial (4), Edinburgh (4) and Warwick (4).

Interest in the United States has remained strong, with four students matriculating at Ivy League universities (Yale, UPenn and Columbia), alongside others at stellar institutions such as Stanford, Tufts and Boston College. 22% of students will be studying in Spain at top destinations including Universidad Pontificia Comillas and Universidad de Navarra, whilst others have been supported in their ambitions to study further afield, including in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy and Hong Kong.

Whilst degrees in Business and Engineering continue to be our leavers’ most popular choices, they are gradually giving way to a wider range of courses, including Chemistry & Biosciences, PPE, Medicine & Neuroscience and Classics, which returns to the list.

Their future looks extremely bright and is a testament both to their own determination and resilience and to the dedication and skilled guidance of their teachers and university advisers.
