Our EYFS children have started the year by exploring our Forest School area. This year we are introducing weekly sessions in the forest for each Foundation Stage class in both English and Spanish. We know that time spent learning in natural environments has a positive impact on children’s creativity, communication and cooperation skills, and well-being. We are so lucky to have a designated area on our campus which provides rich learning experiences outdoors!
This week, Reception went on a colour hunt linked to the story “Wow! Said the Owl”. They read the story and spent time looking for natural materials to match to a colour wheel. From this, the teachers followed the children’s imaginations to see what other learning they would create. Children were using the natural materials to make transient art, mixing up dirt in the mud kitchen making “cement” for a construction site, and acting out stories about an owl mother and her babies. We can’t wait to see how their creativity and imaginations develop as the year goes on.
