We are delighted to announce the results of the XXIII Madrid Intercentros Mathematics Competition, held in February. This prestigious competition, open to all schools in the Comunidad de Madrid, is organised by the Sociedad Puig Adam and hosted at the Faculty of Mathematics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
We would like to highlight that, although our pupils are taught Mathematics in English, this competition is conducted in Spanish, showcasing their remarkable adaptability. This is only the third time Runnymede College has participated, and while in previous years we achieved a top-10 placement, this year our six pupils have surpassed all expectations.
We are thrilled to announce that Runnymede College achieved 1st place among all participating schools in Madrid. We are incredibly proud of our pupils and their outstanding achievement, which is a testament to their dedication and the high standard of education provided by their teachers.
Our school is fortunate to have many talented pupils across all year groups, making team selection a challenging task. Ultimately, our team comprised Zachary and Luka (Year 8), Rafael and Zhijing (Year 11), and Tingwei and Diego (Year 12). While individual tests formed part of the competition, it was the combined efforts of the entire team that secured our exceptional result.
However, special recognition must be given to Zac, who placed 2nd in his age category, and Zhijing, who achieved joint 1st in hers. Both will be invited to a prize-giving ceremony at the Faculty of Mathematics at a later date.
