The fundamental objective of this department is to meet the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Community of Madrid in order to address the educational needs of Spanish pupils enrolled at Runnymede College. It also aims to complete and ensure the linguistic, literary, and cultural education of the Spanish language in all its scope, which is not covered by the British system. To this end, we place special emphasis on oral and written comprehension and expression skills through both literary and non-literary texts.
In Year 11 and Year 10, students are also prepared for the IGCSE in Spanish as a First Language. The curriculum meets the requirements of the Spanish institutions that oversee and inspect these courses, but we adapt our teaching methods to the British system as much as possible, always taking into account the international background and cultural diversity of our pupils.
All pupils of Spanish nationality studying at Runnymede College (British educational system) are required to take these subjects until Year 11 (equivalent to 4th year of ESO in the Spanish system).
