Physics

Albert Einstein, is quoted as saying “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing that it’s stupid”. The Physics Department at Runnymede does not want to create static Physicists but develop problem solvers who know how to imagine their way around a problem and are not afraid to be risk takers.

Facilities at Runnymede College encourage this culture of learning. With state-of-the-art laboratories our pupils begin from a young age to witness real-life applications of Physics, with team-building exercises like building bridges. The type of independent experiments and practical work we introduce our pupils to prepare them for university and make them feel comfortable in a lab setting.

On top of insuring excellence in external examinations, the Physics department is committed to developing in our students an undying curiosity for all that surrounds them, and to always aim to look farther into the realm of the undiscovered. This mindset has been recognised in the different competitions the department takes part in, like the Oxford Physics Challenge and the CERN Beamline Competition which allows our Year 12s to discuss particle physics with a CERN scientist and they have the chance to win a trip to Geneva.

We offer Physics IGCSE and A-level.
