Frank Murphy Memorial Library Inauguration

Last Saturday, an audience of Old Runnymedians, staff, parents, and pupils gathered around the new school library for its inauguration and dedication to the memory of Frank Murphy, Physics teacher and Deputy Head of Runnymede College for forty years.

The ceremony was led by Headmaster Frank Powell, who invited María José Garisa, Mr Murphy’s widow, to unveil the commemorative plaque, which had been draped with an Irish flag.

The memorial concluded with a beautiful performance of Fields of Athenry by Sixth Former Sol, accompanied by the music department’s ensemble.

Cassandra Constant, an Old Runnymedian artist, knowing of Frank’s unconditional support for Rayo Vallecano, presented María José Garisa with one of her works—a piece portraying the Rayo 1 – Real Madrid 0 football match.

The event ended with drinks and a tour of the new building, which now stands between the Julia Powell Sports Hall & Auditorium and the Founder’s Building.
