Runnymede’s Julia Powell Building Recognised by COAM Architectural Awards 2022

We are very pleased to announce that our Julia Powell Sports Hall and Auditorium has been commended with the top “Mención COAM 2022” by the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid. This can be added to the COAM Award and Luis M. Mansilla Prize which were won by the Founder’s Building in 2019.

The COAM Awards 2022 (also celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the organisation) recognised the most impressive works designed by Madrid-based architects, in Spain and across the world. The highest prize this year went to the stunning new Munch Museum in Oslo — so we are in truly illustrious company!

We are delighted that our continued collaboration with Luis Rojo de Castroand Begoña Fernández-Shaw Zulueta of Rojo/Fernandez-Shaw Arquitectos has once again resulted in such a pleasing outcome, and we thank them for their vision. The “Julia” has already woven itself into the fabric of school life, being not only a well-equipped sporting venue and home of Team Runnymede, but also the site for performances, debates, the annual Prize Giving and the Year 13 graduation ceremony. We are sure that Mrs Julia Powell, the late mother of our Headmaster Frank Powell for whom the building is named, would be very proud.
