THE PRE PREP SCHOOL

Head of Pre Prep welcome

Jo Barr 200x300 - Head of Pre Prep welcomeA warm welcome to Runnymede College Pre – Prep School, here at Runnymede we provide a well rounded, outstanding education to boys and girls from the age of 2 to 7. Children can start in Pre-Nursery and continue until their final year in the Pre-Prep in Year 3, before joining the Prep School in Year 4.

At Runnymede we pride ourselves on nurturing our pupils from the first day they join the Runnymede family. Runnymede College is owned by a family and family values are of the most upmost importance. Our school is a happy place of learning and the Pre-Prep school is the gateway from where child move onto the Prep School and finally the Senior School. The children learn to love learning and this leads them on to benefit from an education that both engages and challenges. The children are taught by skilled professionals who are graduates from the best universities, as are many of our teaching assistants who are all also native english speakers. Spanish, Music and Physical Education are taught by specialists.

Pre-Prep is housed in a dedicated building where the children can explore and grow in a safe space. However some areas are shared so there is a sense of belonging to the wider community as the children cross paths with the older students on their way to P.E. lessons in the large sports hall or when they go to lunch in the spacious dining room.

Pre-Prep also shares the core values with the Prep School. ‘Respect’ is the first of these and from an early age the children learn the meaning of respect whether that be for their friends, their teachers, their belongings or their environment. Runnymede welcomes pupils from all over the world; respect for others, their cultures and beliefs is fundamental and very much a reason that Mr Arthur Powell founded the school back in 1967.

‘Kindness’ is our next value and the children are taught to use kind hands and words, as well as how to make good choices, this enables a smooth transition from home to school. There is also a culture of learning from our mistakes and the importance of forgiveness. The children are very young and of course they are still learning and it is important that school and home work together.
Parents are welcomed into school to talk to the children about their passions, their careers or their cultures in the spirit of collaboration that is so important.

The final core value is that of ‘Curiosity’, children learn to love learning which is the perfect beginning to their educational journey. We work hard to create an enriching environment that both excites and challenges. There is a great deal of fun both in the classroom and on the numerous excursions that take place throughout the year. There is also a rigour of learning: in maths the children are taught mastery of mathematical concepts; in English lessons the children learn to read and write through the renowned phonics scheme ‘Read, Write, Inc.’ whilst acquiring a love of reading through high quality children’s literature. The curriculum is taught via a series of projects with links with the real world wherever relevant. A focus is on practising the skills they will need as they continue on their educational journey, our aim is that they will learn without realising they are learning!
